A Legacy of 140 Years
Originally built in 1887 as St James Presbyterian Church, this striking brick building has been a landmark in Stroud for generations.
Its tall ceilings, stained glass windows, and polished timber floors reflect the craftsmanship of another era.

For decades, the church was a place of gathering, worship, and community — holding countless moments of joy, love, and reflection. Today, those same walls continue to hold stories, offering a space where history and hospitality intertwine.
The Restoration
In recent years, the church underwent a careful transformation. Every change was made to preserve the spirit of the original building, while reimagining it as a peaceful retreat for modern guests.

-
The parvise now welcomes visitors as an entryway and mudroom, featuring artefacts and memorabilia that honour the past.
-
The nave, once filled with pews and song, is now the open plan living and dining space, blending heritage with comfort.
-
The vestry has been converted into a beautiful bathroom, with a stunning cathedral glass window and walk-in rain shower.
-
A private deck was added to the back, offering views of Mill Brook — a serene spot for morning coffee or an evening sundowner.
Each feature has been designed to respect the church’s heritage while creating a welcoming space for today’s travellers.
